CHP's Silifke Deputy Mayor candidate is Oğuzhan Kökten

The Republican People's Party (CHP) has selected Oğuzhan Kökten as its candidate for the Deputy Mayor position in Silifke Municipality. The decision was made during a meeting attended by CHP party management and municipal council members, following the arrest of the current Mayor, Mustafa Turgut.

CHP Silifke District Chairman Zarif Korkmaz announced Kökten's nomination in a written statement. Korkmaz stated that the party leadership and council members held a comprehensive evaluation meeting regarding the Deputy Mayor election, scheduled for Monday, June 29, 2026. The meeting included Mersin Provincial Chairman Koral Ömür and Provincial Secretary Çağdaş Zakir Ceylan.

Korkmaz emphasized that the will expressed by the people of Silifke in the March 31, 2024, local elections is the party's greatest assurance. He pledged that services at Silifke Municipality, entrusted to them by 45,000 citizens, would continue uninterrupted. "The will and decision of our fellow Silifke residents will never be left unsupported," Korkmaz stated, wishing the decision well for the party, Silifke, Mersin, and all citizens.

The Silifke Municipal Council currently comprises 21 members from the CHP, 5 from the AK Party, and 5 from the MHP. The Deputy Mayor will be elected from among these council members.
