CHP Zonguldak Demands Extraordinary Congress with Notarized Signatures

The Zonguldak provincial organization of Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) has taken a significant step towards demanding an extraordinary party congress. Provincial Chairman Devrim Dural, along with 38th term congress delegates, officially submitted their signatures to a notary public to initiate the process.

Today, here, to defend the will of the nation, to protect the will for change and hope, we, the elected cadres of the Republican People's Party and the elected congress delegates, have come to the notary public and submitted our petitions containing our demand for a congress.

The move was preceded by a march from the provincial party headquarters to the Zonguldak 2nd Notary Office, drawing participation from the Mayor of Zonguldak, Tahsin Erdem, municipal council members, and numerous party members. This demonstration of support was interpreted as a strong indicator of the backing for an extraordinary congress within the party ranks.

We, as Republican People's Party members, do not see this issue solely as our party's problem. This issue is also the problem of the people, society, and the nation.

During the notary proceedings, delegates Devrim Dural, Merve Arslan, Fahri Diler, and Uğur Dikenli formally presented their petition for an extraordinary congress. It was also reported that delegates Çetin Bozkurt, Bülent Kantarcı, Deniz Yavuzyılmaz, Eylem Ertuğrul, and Güler Demiroğlu had separately submitted signatures in support of the congress demand.

We are not appointed; we all represent the elected will. We are pursuing the will for change and hope. We aim for a Republican People's Party that is not accustomed to losing, but accustomed to winning; a party that marches towards power.

Speaking outside the notary office, Provincial Chairman Devrim Dural articulated the group's stance, emphasizing their commitment to the "will for change" and "party democracy." He asserted that they represent the "elected will" and are striving for a CHP that is accustomed to winning and aims for power. Dural stressed that this is not merely an internal party matter but one that concerns the public and the nation. He called for respect for the congress, democracy, and the will of the people, challenging those who are "appointed" to show their strength and will at the congress. Dural concluded by stating that their call for change reflects the hope of the people and the voice of the streets, and that they will defend democracy and never surrender the CHP to appointed officials.
