Chung Shan Hospital's New Superintendent Appointed: Heart Specialist Chan Kuei-chuan Takes Over

Chung Shan Medical University Hospital held a handover ceremony today, appointing renowned cardiologist Dr. Chan Kuei-chuan as its new superintendent. Dr. Chan, previously the vice superintendent of medical affairs, takes on the significant responsibility of leading the hospital into its next phase.

Dr. Chan, a graduate of Chung Shan Medical University's medical school and holder of a doctorate in medicine, has extensive experience spanning over 30 years in clinical practice, education, and administration. His previous roles include director of cardiology, director of internal medicine, and dean of the medical college.

He emphasized his commitment to a patient-centered approach, aiming to build a medical institution that combines smart innovation, humanistic care, and sustainable development. Dr. Chan articulated a vision for the hospital to become a "model medical center for a healthy Taiwan."

Addressing the challenges of an aging population, rapidly changing medical needs, and the rise of artificial intelligence, Dr. Chan outlined four main development axes for the hospital's future. These include advancing precision medicine, fostering smart innovation, ensuring holistic care, and promoting sustainable development. He stressed that the hospital's mission extends beyond treating illness to safeguarding health, nurturing medical talent, and contributing to social welfare.

Dr. Chan plans to integrate genomic medicine, cross-specialty care, and innovative treatment technologies. He also highlighted the importance of applying AI and big data in healthcare, developing geriatric medicine and community integrated care, and implementing ESG principles. The goal is to create a medical center with smart technology, humanistic care, and international competitiveness to protect public health.
