Cibona legends gather, coach optimistic about club's future

Legends of the Croatian basketball club Cibona reunited in Zagreb, celebrating their past European championship triumphs and looking towards the team's future. The gathering, held at the Sports Association of the City of Zagreb, brought together players from the 1986 European Cup-winning team, including Danko Cvjetićanin, Sven Ušić, Franjo Arapović, Damir Pavličević, Dražen Anzulović, and coach Željko Pavličević.

Coach Pavličević, who led Cibona to victory against Žalgiris and its star player Arvydas Sabonis in the 1986 final, expressed optimism about the current team's prospects. He cited information from an auditor suggesting a concession from the City of Zagreb that could enable the club's growth. Marko Bošnjak, deputy head of the city's education, sport, and youth department, echoed this sentiment, stating that recent actions have given Cibona "phoenix-like" potential.

During the event, former players shared reflections on their careers and the club's legacy. Sven Ušić lamented the absence of departed teammates like Dražen Petrović and Mirko Novosel, stressing that success requires a clear vision and continuous effort, contrasting it with the modern demand for quick results. Danko Cvjetićanin, who spent over 20 years as an NBA scout, highlighted the vast differences between the NBA and European basketball, noting Europe's struggle to adapt to market principles.
