CIS Military Shooting Championship Underway in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is currently hosting a shooting championship for military personnel from Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. The opening ceremony took place on August 5, 2026, featuring competitions with standard-issue firearms.

This championship is part of the 17th Spartakiad, an athletic competition among the armed forces of friendly CIS nations. Colonel Almazbek Kozhoshev, head of the Ministry of Defense's main department for troop operations, stated that the event is designed to enhance the professional training of military personnel.

Kozhoshev highlighted the championship as an effective platform for sharing experiences, developing military-applied sports, and reinforcing the "combat brotherhood" among the participating CIS armed forces. The competition is expected to foster stronger ties and mutual understanding between the military branches.

Participants are competing in both individual and team categories. The events involve marksmanship exercises using the AK-74 assault rifle and the Makarov pistol, testing the precision and skill of the soldiers.
