Civilian videographer triggers drone intrusion alert at Ben-Gurion Airport

Ben-Gurion Airport experienced a temporary disruption to its operations on Tuesday morning when a civilian drone was detected in its airspace. Airport officials from the Israel Airports Authority identified the unauthorized drone and immediately activated security protocols. Airport police were dispatched to locate the drone's operator, who was found and interrogated within an hour.

The drone was reportedly being used to capture promotional video clips for a construction company. The incident caused takeoffs and landings at the airport to be halted during peak hours. This is not the first time a civilian drone has caused such a disruption; a similar event occurred on August 5, leading to flight delays.

Following the recent incident, Transportation Ministry Director-General Moshe Ben Zaken has initiated an investigation. The events are occurring amidst discussions about a potential complete ban on civilian drones in Israel's airspace. Reports suggest this consideration stems from a lack of effective counter-drone technologies and concerns that potential attacks by Iran or Hezbollah could involve increased drone usage.
