Civilians Attack Border Police at Kalandiya Checkpoint, Attempt to Seize Weapons

Border Police officers faced a violent encounter at the Kalandiya checkpoint when civilians attempted to breach security and seize weapons. The incident occurred when a vehicle from the West Bank tried to pass through the junction into Israel. As officers approached, suspects emerged and assaulted them, with one officer being strangled.

In response, one officer fired into the air to deter the attackers. When the situation escalated, another officer shot two suspects in the lower body. Police later confirmed the wounded individuals were security guards, sustaining light injuries. They received initial treatment from the officer who fired before being evacuated for further care. Several Border Police officers also sustained minor wounds.

Both were lightly wounded and were given medical treatment, initially by the officer who opened fire, before being evacuated for further treatment, police confirmed.

The police announced the incident is under investigation. In a separate event on Monday evening, Israeli forces rescued ten Israeli civilians from Kalkilya. These individuals had entered Area A of the West Bank in an attempt to recover a stolen motorcycle. Troops and police dispersed a crowd and safely extracted the civilians.
