CJNG Attacks in Uruapan Leave Two Dead, Child Injured; Mayor Demands 'Not With Children'

Two people died and two others, including a child and his young mother, were injured in two separate attacks by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel in Uruapan, Michoacán. The first attack occurred near the "La Plancha" soccer field in the La Cedrera neighborhood, where gunmen intercepted a couple and their young son in a vehicle and opened fire. The man died at the scene, while his wife and son sustained serious injuries.

The second attack took place on Mazatlán street in the Morelos neighborhood, where another man was shot and killed next to a vehicle outside a bar. Uruapan's municipal president, Grecia Quiroz García, condemned the violence, especially the harm to children, and pleaded for respect for innocent lives. She assured the injured family of medical attention.

Security sources attribute the ongoing violence in Uruapan to internal conflicts and power struggles within the CJNG for regional control. These disputes reportedly intensified after the arrest of Gerardo N, known as "El Congo," the local CJNG plaza boss, who was detained on March 2. The internal conflict is said to have escalated as various factions within the cartel have turned against El Congo following the death of the organization's founder, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, "El Mencho."
