Classic Korean film 'Oasis' and Taiwanese drama 'The Courage of Us' released

Classic Korean cinema is being celebrated with the digital restoration and re-release of Lee Chang-dong's acclaimed film 'Oasis.' The movie, a recipient of an award at the 59th Venice Film Festival, delves into the lives of two marginalized individuals who find solace and connection in each other.

'Oasis' tells the story of Hong Jong-do, recently released from prison, and Han Gong-ju, a woman with severe cerebral palsy. Their paths cross when Jong-do visits the family of the victim of a crime he took the blame for. Despite their societal isolation and individual struggles, a profound bond develops between them, challenging conventional perceptions of love and relationships.

Accompanying this cinematic revival is the Taiwanese film 'The Courage of Us,' featuring a notable performance by Rene Liu, who returns to the big screen after a 14-year hiatus. The film, a collaboration between Mayday's Ashin and Golden Melody Award-winning producer Ye Rufen, explores the hesitations and courage adults face when making choices in love and life.

Liu portrays 'Love,' a seasoned artist manager, who is in a relationship with 'Bern,' a commercials director played by Ke-Shih Ling. The age difference and past traumas create a barrier to their commitment, but a life-altering event on Love's 45th birthday forces them to confront their future together. Both films promise to deliver deeply emotional narratives and compelling explorations of the human condition.
