Claudia Sheinbaum congratulates Katia Itzel García on World Cup debut

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo celebrated the achievements of several Mexican athletes, including referee Katia Itzel García, who made her debut at the 2026 World Cup.

During her regular press conference on Tuesday, June 16, at the National Palace, Sheinbaum Pardo extended congratulations to García for her significant milestone in international football officiating.

The president also acknowledged cyclist Isaac del Toro for his victory in the 78th edition of the Tour of Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes. Additionally, she recognized Maya Becerra for securing a gold medal at the Antalya 2026 World Cup in archery.

"Many congratulations to Katia, many congratulations. By the way, congratulations also to Isaac del Toro, who now for football, but also had a triumph in cycling. And, I don't remember the athlete's name in archery either, she also won gold. Many congratulations, and also to Katia who was here with us, many congratulations for her good performance," said the federal executive.

The president's remarks highlighted Mexico's growing presence and success in various international sporting events, underscoring national pride in the athletes' accomplishments.
