Clear skies across South Korea on Baekro, with strong winds and occasional rain on the east coast

South Korea will see mostly clear skies on Monday, the seasonal Baekro day, but the east coast and southern coastal areas will face rain, strong winds and high waves.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said occasional rain could continue along the east coast through Wednesday. Strong winds are expected particularly along the Yeongnam coast, while many other regions could see gusts through Monday afternoon.

Rain is possible Monday morning in Gangwon's east coast and mountainous areas, Busan, Ulsan, the eastern coast of North Gyeongsang province, and Jeju's mountainous and mid-mountain areas. Expected rainfall is below 5 millimeters in most of those areas and around 5 millimeters in Jeju's higher terrain.

From today through the day after tomorrow, there will be occasional rain in places, mainly along the east coast, and very strong winds, mainly along the Yeongnam coast.

The Yeongnam coast, already under a strong-wind advisory, could experience gusts above 20 meters per second through Monday afternoon. Eastern Jeju could see similarly powerful winds until early Tuesday, while much of the country could record gusts of about 15 to 20 meters per second.

Waves will remain particularly high in the southern seas, around Jeju and in the East Sea. Strong swells are expected along the east coast, the southern coast of Gyeongsang province and Jeju. High temperatures will range from 25 C to 31 C, close to seasonal averages, although the perceived temperature could reach about 31 C in parts of South Jeolla province.
