Climate activists deflate tires on dozens of luxury cars on Sylt

Climate activists targeted approximately 50 luxury vehicles on the North Sea island of Sylt, deflating their tires overnight. The group, calling themselves the "Resistance Collective," claimed responsibility for the action in an email, stating their goal was to protest the environmental impact of such cars.

Police confirmed they have launched an investigation into the incident. However, a police spokesperson noted that the act does not constitute a criminal offense because the tires were not destroyed, only deflated by manipulating the valves with red lenses. Reports indicated that around 20 vehicles were affected by midday.

The "Resistance Collective" left messages on the affected vehicles, explaining their actions were not personal but aimed at the type of car and the associated traffic. They argued that these luxury cars are an unnecessary and irresponsible part of the lifestyle for many "luxury vacationers" on Sylt, a small island. The group emphasized the significant environmental burden caused by the production, resource consumption, and operation of these vehicles.
