Cluj liberal Alin Tișe urges party to vote for Veștea government, attacks leadership

Alin Tișe, president of the Cluj County Council and a prominent figure within the National Liberal Party (PNL), has launched a sharp critique against his party's leadership. He accused them of hypocrisy and irresponsibility amidst Romania's prolonged political crisis. Tișe urged PNL parliamentarians to support the investiture of the government proposed by Prime Minister-designate Adrian Veștea, arguing that the party has a duty to participate in forming an executive. "The National Liberal Party is obliged to rise above the times and place the rule of law above party interest. Through this prolonged 50-day crisis, the PNL has forgotten its mission," Tișe stated. He insisted that the party cannot obstruct the formation of a new government, even if it later chooses to be in opposition. Tișe also criticized internal party disputes, which he described as personal battles detached from citizens' concerns. He suggested that many liberal parliamentarians are hesitant to voice their true opinions publicly for fear of party exclusion. The Cluj leader specifically called out PNL leaders who now oppose cooperation with the Social Democratic Party (PSD), despite having previously governed with them. "Some have suddenly become virgins out of a brothel. They governed with PSD, they shared positions, and now they declare themselves scandalized," Tișe remarked. He also dismissed the idea that interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who has called for an extraordinary PNL congress, is a savior for the party, stating, "Bolojan is no savior and he is not our boss. PNL cannot be led by fear."
