Coast Guard rescues Indonesian fisherman with severed fingers

A swift rescue operation by the Penghu Coast Guard successfully aided an Indonesian fisherman who suffered a severe injury at sea. The incident occurred on the morning of August 11, when the fishing vessel "Lai Hao" reported that one of its Indonesian crew members had severed two fingers on his right hand while working.

Upon receiving the distress call at 10:43 AM, the Coast Guard's Kinma-Penghu-Matsu Branch, specifically the 13th Patrol District, immediately coordinated a response. The fishing boat was instructed to sail towards Magong, while the Penghu Coast Guard unit dispatched its patrol boat PP-3519 to meet them at sea, optimizing travel time and ensuring a faster transfer.

The patrol boat rendezvoused with the fishing vessel approximately 4 nautical miles northwest of Xiaomen at 11:40 AM. The injured fisherman was then safely transferred to the patrol boat. He arrived in Magong at 12:30 PM, where an ambulance from the fire department was waiting to transport him to the Tri-Service General Hospital Penghu Branch for immediate medical attention.

The Kinma-Penghu-Matsu Branch emphasized the importance of the Coast Guard's "118" emergency hotline for fishermen operating in the waters around Penghu. They urged anyone facing emergencies at sea to contact them or report through the Penghu Fishermen's Association's radio to ensure prompt rescue and safeguard lives and property.
