COE issues green alert in Peravia and other provinces

The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has expanded a green alert to include Peravia province, bringing the total number of areas under this warning to four. The alert is in response to the possibility of rising rivers, streams, and flash floods, as well as urban flooding, caused by ongoing rainfall.

In addition to Peravia, the National District and the provinces of Santo Domingo and San Cristóbal remain under the green alert. This measure was enacted Wednesday night after the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported persistent conditions favorable for rain across various parts of the country. While precipitation has gradually decreased in areas most affected recently, Indomet noted scattered showers over Samaná, El Seibo, and Hato Mayor, with further rain expected in María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, and nearby provinces.

Indomet forecasts local showers and thunderstorms for the early morning hours along the Caribbean coast and the northeast. A new tropical wave is expected to approach the Dominican Republic on Thursday, potentially increasing rainfall. The COE is urging the public in the affected areas to stay informed through official bulletins and to implement necessary precautionary measures against potential flooding.

The green alert level signifies anticipated conditions that could pose a danger to the population. The COE also advised that small and fragile vessels on the Caribbean coast, south and southwest of Pedernales, should navigate with caution near the coastline and avoid venturing far offshore due to abnormal winds and waves.
