COE quota for August to October up by 0.2%, Category A certificates to dip further

Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA) has announced a modest increase in the Certificate of Entitlement (COE) quota for the upcoming August to October bidding period. The total quota will rise by 0.2%, bringing the number of available COEs to 19,085, compared to 19,052 in the previous May to July period.

The slight overall increase is primarily driven by a significant 6.2% rise in the quota for Category B vehicles, which will see 5,527 COEs available. The quota for commercial vehicles (Category C) will also increase by 5.4% to 1,836.

However, the trend is not uniform across all vehicle types. The quota for Category A certificates, typically for smaller, less expensive cars, will see a 4% reduction, falling to 7,134. This continues a downward trend for Category A that began in the February to April period. Similarly, the quota for motorcycles (Category D) will decrease by approximately 2.5% to 3,065, and the open category (Category E) will experience a slight 0.2% dip to 1,523.

The COE quota calculation includes components such as replacement COEs from deregistered vehicles, provisions for growth in Category C based on its population, adjustments for taxi population changes, and other redistribution mechanisms. Bidding under the new quota will commence on August 3.
