Colo-Colo’s winning streak halted by Huachipato as lead is cut

Colo-Colo’s winning run came to an end in a dull 0-0 draw with Huachipato in Concepción, cutting the league leader’s advantage over its closest pursuers.

The match at Ester Roa Rebolledo Stadium formed part of the 22nd round of Chile’s Primera League. Colo-Colo entered the game without suspended forward Javier Correa and began the round with a 16-point lead. Victories for Universidad Católica and Universidad de Chile reduced that margin before kickoff, adding pressure to a side trying to preserve its commanding position.

Colo-Colo took the initiative but struggled to break through a Huachipato defense that absorbed its attacks in the first half. Maximiliano Romero narrowly failed to connect with a low cross in the 20th minute, while Diego Ulloa struck the post with a powerful shot seven minutes before halftime.

Huachipato goalkeeper Christian Bravo became the decisive figure after the break. He stopped three clear chances from Colo-Colo in the 48th, 59th and 71st minutes. Bravo had previously been affected by firecrackers during Huachipato’s suspended match against Coquimbo.

Colo-Colo made changes but could not alter the pattern of the game. The draw left the club first with 53 points, now 14 ahead of Universidad Católica and Universidad de Chile. It will host Deportes Concepción on Sunday, September 13, at 5:30 p.m. Huachipato reached 25 points in 13th place and will visit Universidad de Concepción the same day at 12:30 p.m.
