Cologne celebrates Bundesliga season start with 3-2 victory over Hoffenheim

1. FC Köln kicked off their Bundesliga campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 victory against TSG Hoffenheim, marking a triumphant return to winning ways at home against their rivals.

Young talent Saïd El Mala was instrumental in the comeback, scoring the crucial equalizer in the 51st minute. Newcomer Thijs Dallinger sealed the win with two goals in the second half. Cologne had to overcome a deficit twice, with Adam Daghim and Ozan Kabak scoring for Hoffenheim.

Despite the win, El Mala, who recently extended his contract and took on the iconic number 10 jersey, had to be substituted in the second half due to apparent cramps. Hoffenheim also missed a penalty opportunity through Max Moerstedt.

The match saw Hoffenheim struggling with offensive absences, including key players like Andrej Kramaric. Cologne's victory, witnessed by 49,700 spectators, sets a positive tone for their season, especially after more than eleven years without a home win against the Kraichgau club.
