Colombia holds Portugal to a scoreless draw to top Group K

Colombia clinched the top spot in Group K at the World Cup with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Portugal. The stalemate means Colombia advances as group winners, setting up a Round of 16 clash with Ghana. Portugal, finishing second, will now face Croatia in the knockout stage.

The match, held in Miami, saw Colombia largely dictate play, enjoying significant possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities. However, they were consistently thwarted by Portugal's goalkeeper, Diogo Costa, who maintained a clean sheet throughout the encounter. Despite strong support from the stands, Colombia's attackers could not find the back of the net.

Colombia came close to breaking the deadlock on several occasions. Substitute Richard Rios narrowly missed the target midway through the second half. In the dying moments, Portugal's Ruben Dias made a goal-line clearance before Luis Suarez fired a promising chance over the bar. Davinson Sanchez managed to head the ball into the net from a free-kick in stoppage time, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Veteran Cristiano Ronaldo played the entire match for Portugal but had a minimal impact. In the group's other game, DR Congo defeated Uzbekistan 3-1. DR Congo secured third place in the group and will advance to play England in the next round.
