Colombia’s car sales rise 42.1% in 2026

Colombia’s car market has continued to grow through the first eight months of 2026, even after sales fell in August compared with July. The country recorded 27,124 new car registrations during the month, making it the fifth-best month of the year so far.

Total car registrations reached 213,377 through August, an increase of 42.1% over the same period last year. Kia held the lead both in August and across the year, with 28,077 registrations. Renault followed with 21,266, ahead of Toyota with 18,946, Chevrolet with 15,782 and Mazda with 15,281.

The Tesla Model Y remained the best-selling model of 2026, with 12,161 registrations. That figure also made it the leading electric vehicle. The Renault Duster ranked next with 7,628 units, followed by the Kia K3 with 6,804, the Kia Picanto with 6,254 and the Mazda CX-30 with 6,043.

Motorcycle sales also remained strong despite a monthly decline. August brought 111,896 registrations, down from July’s 131,936, the best month of the year so far. Only January recorded fewer than 100,000 registrations. The market has registered 889,078 new motorcycles this year, up 28.94% from the same period in 2025. After 1,100,166 units in 2025, the market is expected to approach 1.3 million new motorcycles by the end of 2026. The Bogotá Motor Show is scheduled at Corferias from November 12 to 21.
