Colombian Forensic Institute Identifies 228 Victims of Magnitude 7.4 Earthquake

The National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Colombia has identified 228 victims following the magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck on August 10. The institute received 250 bodies from the affected departments of Chocó, Caldas, Risaralda, and Valle del Cauca. Of these, 228 have been identified, including 13 minors.

So far, 194 bodies have been released to their families. The latest update, as of Thursday afternoon, includes names, sex, and ages of the identified victims, noting their place of origin. The list features individuals from cities such as Manizales, Pereira, Cali, and Quibdó, among others. In some cases, particularly for minors, identification is still pending or listed by initials.

The earthquake's impact has led to significant loss of life, with authorities working to identify and repatriate victims to their grieving families. The ongoing efforts by Medicina Legal aim to provide closure and facilitate the return of the deceased.
