Colombian Singer Alci Acosta Hospitalized in Intensive Care With Health Problems

Colombian bolero singer Alci Acosta is receiving intensive care in Barranquilla after developing problems involving his kidneys and prostate, his son Checo Acosta said.

The 87-year-old artist is being treated at Clínica La Misericordia Internacional. His family said his condition is stable and that he remains under medical supervision. They have not said how long he will stay in hospital or provided further details about his diagnosis.

Checo Acosta thanked the medical team and expressed his family’s gratitude for messages of support sent after the hospitalization became known.

Alci Acosta has faced other health problems in recent years. In 2023, he underwent surgery for severe lumbar stenosis, which affected his mobility and required rehabilitation and muscle-strengthening work. In 2021, he received medical attention after becoming unwell during a performance in Bogotá.

Born in Soledad on Nov. 5, 1938, Acosta has spent more than six decades as a singer and pianist and is regarded as one of Colombia’s emblematic bolero performers. His best-known songs include “La copa rota,” “Traicionera,” “La cárcel de Sing Sing,” “El último beso” and “Si hoy fuera ayer.”
