Colón Launches Urban Renewal Project in Barrio Norte and Barrio Sur

The historic heart of Colón is set to undergo a significant transformation as the district municipality officially launches its urban renewal project. With an investment of over $47,000 sourced from the mayor's decentralized funds, the initiative focuses on the restoration of buildings in the Barrio Norte and Barrio Sur sectors. This ambitious plan aims to revitalize the city's historic center, breathing new life into its iconic structures, most notably along the renowned Avenida Central, also known as Paseo Juan Demóstenes Arosemena.

Mayor Diógenes Galván detailed that the first phase will address 21 buildings, with a broader vision to eventually recover more than 200 properties throughout the urban core. The project emphasizes meticulous restoration, respecting historical heritage criteria and adhering to the specific color palettes designated by heritage authorities for Avenida Central. This careful approach ensures that the renewal enhances, rather than detracts from, Colón's unique historical character.

Beyond the aesthetic improvements, this urban renewal project carries significant economic implications for the local community. Authorities anticipate the creation of over 500 employment opportunities for Colón residents during the execution phase, providing a much-needed boost to the local economy.
