Comedian Piare con P defends removing 'feminism' from routine after colleague's criticism

Comedian Piare con P has responded to criticism from her colleague Natalia Valdebenito, who accused her of betraying her convictions by removing the word "feminism" from her Viña 2026 comedy routine.

Valdebenito had expressed offense, stating that feminism paved the way for Piare con P's success and that altering her message for public approval was a form of "transaction." She argued that comedy should challenge power, not serve it, and that Piare con P should have been bold enough to use the word "feminism" and withstand any backlash.

In a statement released through journalist Cecilia Gutiérrez, Piare con P addressed the controversy, titling her response "I changed a word, not my convictions." She revealed that she had been processing aggressive messages and threats received after Valdebenito's comments. Piare con P confirmed she removed "feminism" from a joke that critiqued romantic love, emphasizing that this decision was not made lightly and did not signify a rejection of feminist principles.

"Natalia can have her interpretation of my words and can give her opinion. I would have preferred she told me directly and that her stance would have been one of dialogue," Piare con P stated, adding that Valdebenito's aggressive tone fueled further negative comments and caused her pain.
