ComfortDelGro joint venture wins S$3.4 billion Copenhagen Metro contract

ComfortDelGro is extending its Singapore-built rail expertise deeper into Europe after its joint venture with France's RATP Dev won a 17 billion Danish kroner contract to run Copenhagen's fully automated metro.

KBH Metro Partner will operate and maintain the network for 12 years, through 2039, with an option to extend the agreement by another three years. The contract is expected to be signed in September after a statutory standstill period.

The Copenhagen system has four lines, 44 stations and 43 kilometres of track. It runs around the clock and carried a record 135 million passengers in 2025. Alongside daily operations and maintenance, the joint venture will support modernisation and renewal projects planned over the coming years.

The award marks ComfortDelGro's second rail operation in Scandinavia, after its contract for the Stockholm Metro. It is also the company's third automated-metro collaboration with RATP Dev. ComfortDelGro said the Copenhagen contract will take its rail network in operation and under mobilisation past 420 kilometres, about five times the size of the network when it first expanded overseas.

The company operates Singapore's North East and Downtown lines and the Sengkang-Punggol LRT through SBS Transit. It is also preparing to run Singapore's Jurong Region Line with RATP Dev and France's Grand Paris Express Line 15 South as part of a consortium involving RATP Dev and Alstom. ComfortDelGro said the Copenhagen selection showed that its rail expertise could be scaled into a repeatable international model.
