Authorities in Rivers State, Nigeria, have apprehended three individuals suspected of murdering a commercial driver, Christopher Akpabio, 55, and stealing his vehicle. The victim was reportedly lured to a staged traditional marriage ceremony in Asarama Community, where he was subsequently killed and buried in a shallow grave.

According to police spokesperson Agabe Kaborlo, preliminary investigations indicate the suspects hired Mr. Akpabio at Garrison Park in Port Harcourt under the pretense of attending the ceremony. However, their true intention was to murder him and take his vehicle. The victim had been reported missing on May 22 after departing Port Harcourt for a transport trip.

Police operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the suspects, David Mark, 30; Nkajit Williams, 45; and Godgift John, 33, on May 28. During the operation, the stolen black Daihatsu Hijet minibus was recovered. The victim's remains were found buried in a shallow grave in Asarama Community and have been deposited at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital mortuary.

Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. He also advised commercial drivers to exercise caution when accepting trips from unknown individuals and to inform others of their travel plans. Efforts are underway to apprehend a fourth suspect who is still at large. The command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.
