Commonwealth Games: Nigeria ranks ninth on all-time medals table

As the 2026 Commonwealth Games approach their conclusion in Glasgow, Nigeria stands as one of the competition's most successful nations, securing ninth place on the all-time medal table. Since its first appearance, Nigeria has accumulated 271 medals, comprising 82 gold, 84 silver, and 105 bronze.

This achievement places Nigeria among an elite group of nine countries that have surpassed the 250-medal mark in Commonwealth Games history. The historical rankings underscore the dominance of nations with long and consistent participation. Australia comfortably leads the standings with an impressive 2,604 medals, followed by England with 2,322, and Canada with 1,647.

Nigeria is the highest-ranked nation in West Africa and is one of only two African countries to feature in the top 10. Kenya ranks 10th with 258 medals, including 91 gold. The historical success of countries like Australia and England, who together have won nearly 5,000 medals, demonstrates their long-standing commitment and performance at the multi-sport event.

Despite the rich history of the Games, 16 Commonwealth Games Associations have yet to win a single medal. These include nations like Anguilla, Belize, Eswatini, and Gibraltar. With medal events still underway in Glasgow, some of these nations may yet achieve their first podium finish before the Games conclude on August 2.
