Conmebol consults members on FIFA's commercial subsidiary proposal

South American football's governing body, Conmebol, has begun consulting its member associations about FIFA's controversial proposal to create a commercial subsidiary, FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE). The plan, championed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, aims to attract private investment for the commercial exploitation of competitions like the World Cup.

Conmebol has not yet taken a definitive position for or against the proposal. Instead, the organization, led by Alejandro Domínguez, has requested further details from FIFA. In a statement, Conmebol stressed that its "priority will always be football: its values, its people, and the passion that makes it the most popular sport in the world."

While acknowledging the need for commercial and financial decisions to foster football's development, Conmebol asserted that "such decisions must always be in service of football and never above its essence." The confederation pledged to act with prudence, responsibility, and collaboration, contributing to global football's strength through institutional channels and good governance principles.

This initiative has already faced opposition from UEFA (Europe), Concacaf (North, Central America, and the Caribbean), and the AFC (Asia). Conmebol concluded by calling for unity within the football family, urging stakeholders to always place football above any other interest.
