Conmebol Reschedules Copa Libertadores Games Postponed by Colombian Earthquake

The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) has announced new dates for two Copa Libertadores matches that were suspended following a devastating earthquake in Colombia. The rescheduled fixtures involve Colombian teams Deportes Tolima and Independiente Santa Fe.

The first leg match between Deportes Tolima and Ecuador's Independiente Del Valle, originally set for August 11, will now take place on August 18. The return leg is scheduled for August 25. Similarly, the encounter between Independiente Santa Fe and Argentina's River Plate, initially planned for August 12, has been moved to August 19, with the second leg on August 28.

These postponements were a direct consequence of the powerful earthquake that struck Colombia, resulting in numerous casualties, reportedly 224 according to government figures. The seismic event led Conmebol to suspend the matches scheduled to be held in Ibagué and Bogotá, prioritizing safety in the wake of the disaster.

Despite the disruptions, Conmebol confirmed that other Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana matches scheduled between August 11 and 13 will proceed as planned. This includes fixtures such as Fluminense vs. Independiente Rivadavia and Estudiantes de La Plata vs. Universidad Católica in the Libertadores, and Boca Juniors vs. Recoleta and Club Bolívar vs. São Paulo in the Sudamericana. These tournaments are resuming after a break for the 2026 World Cup.
