Controversial Appointment in Selçuk: District Chair Wished AKP Success, Didn't Support CHP

The appointment of Ali Akyüz as the new CHP Selçuk District Chair has ignited controversy within the party due to his past political stances and social media activity. Akyüz was appointed following the resignations of the CHP district chair, mayor, and municipal council members in the Efes Selçuk district.

His previous social media posts have drawn criticism, particularly one from the last general election period. In the post, Akyüz thanked members of the AKP (Justice and Development Party) delegation, including Hakan Bayraklı, Şebnem Bursalı, and Ömür Şanlı, after they visited the Rumeli Immigrants Association, where he served as president. He wrote, "We wish them success on this sacred path they have embarked upon."

Further scrutiny has fallen on Akyüz's actions during the 2024 local elections. Reports suggest that he did not support the official CHP mayoral candidate. Instead, he allegedly provided open support to an independent mayoral candidate. These past political choices have created internal debate among CHP party circles following his appointment.
