Convertible turns scrap of metal, driver confusion, chilling video: Scary details in BMW crash near Mumbai

A tragic birthday celebration turned fatal when a speeding BMW convertible crashed on an under-construction stretch of the Mumbai-Vadodara Highway near Badlapur early Sunday morning. The luxury car, carrying three friends, was allegedly traveling at speeds reaching 251 kmph before colliding with a divider and flipping multiple times.

The impact was so severe that the convertible was reduced to scrap metal, and the occupants were thrown from the open-top vehicle. Two friends, identified as 26-year-old Yogesh Kishan Negi and 22-year-old Rebecca Babu Jacob, were killed in the crash. The sole survivor, 24-year-old Angad Gill, remains in critical condition in a hospital.

Investigators are piecing together the events leading up to the crash, which occurred around 2:30 am. A video circulating on social media, purportedly recorded inside the car moments before the accident, appears to show the speedometer hitting 251 kmph. Police suspect that excessive speed and poor visibility on the unfinished highway contributed to the driver losing control.

A key question for investigators is determining who was driving the BMW at the time of the accident. The vehicle is registered to Gill's father, but authorities have not yet conclusively identified the driver. The investigation is ongoing, with police focusing on the speed of the vehicle and the conditions of the road.
