Copa Oro returns to be played in Mexico; this is what we know

Mexico is set to host select matches of the Copa Oro tournament for the first time in over two decades, with games scheduled for the summer of 2027. This marks a significant return for the Concacaf championship to Mexican soil, with the Estadio Banorte being a likely venue.

The Mexican Football Federation has successfully secured hosting rights for some of the tournament's games. This achievement comes after considerable efforts to bring the premier Concacaf national team competition back to Mexico. While details are still pending official confirmation, it is yet to be determined if Mexico will host only group stage matches or also games in the knockout rounds.

This will be the third time Mexico hosts parts of the Copa Oro. The nation previously co-hosted the tournament in 1993, when it also won the championship, defeating the United States in the final. A decade later, in 2005, Mexico once again hosted some matches and went on to win the title, beating Brazil in the final.

The upcoming 2026 North America World Cup is expected to generate significant excitement in Mexico, and Concacaf aims to capitalize on this by drawing large crowds, particularly for the Mexican national team's games at the Estadio Azteca. Mexico enters this period as the reigning two-time champion of the Copa Oro, having secured victories in the 2023 and 2025 finals.
