Copei ODCA backs new dialogue, warns against 'another failure'

The Copei ODCA party in Venezuela has voiced its support for the newly established dialogue mechanism, comprising the 2015 National Assembly and the Chavista-controlled assembly. The party stressed that this initiative must not become another disappointment for Venezuelans but should instead lay the groundwork for democratic recovery.

Copei ODCA expressed optimism for the success of the working groups, advocating for political understanding and expecting concrete solutions for national border demands. Key priorities highlighted include the release of all political prisoners, an end to harassment and disqualifications, the restoration of legitimate leadership to political organizations, and the appointment of an independent National Electoral Council (CNE) and Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).

Copei ODCA also underscored the importance of regaining trust and respecting Venezuela's Constitution, ensuring adherence to the social contract that has been violated in recent years. "This cannot be another failure. We are betting on the realization of that shared dream of living in freedom in Venezuela again," the organization, part of the Unitary Democratic Platform (PUD), remarked.

The party acknowledged that diplomatic and political timelines may not align with citizens' urgent needs. However, they insisted on defining a date for the desired political change, achievable only through a clear and transparent electoral roadmap. "The Venezuelan people cannot keep waiting. The people who expressed themselves on July 28, 2024, and chose Edmundo González Urrutia, continue to recognize María Corina Machado's leadership. It is the same people who today continue to demand to live in freedom, in democracy, and urgently need elections to express themselves and have their will respected."
