Copenhagen Municipality finishes combating oak processionary moth on Amager

Copenhagen Municipality has declared its campaign against the oak processionary moth on Amager island complete. The Climate, Environment, and Technical Administration has removed larvae and nests from municipal areas after the pest was first identified in early July.

Following the initial detection near Artillerivej, the administration focused on mapping the moth's spread and subsequently eradicating the infestations. An external company was contracted to carry out the removal of larvae and their webs. The work has been finalized on municipal grounds, though the administration acknowledges that new locations might emerge.

Officials will maintain vigilance over the oak trees within the municipality's jurisdiction to detect and address any future outbreaks promptly. The oak processionary moth's caterpillars possess irritating hairs that can cause allergic reactions in humans and animals, making their control a public health concern.
