COPPPAL expresses solidarity with Colombia after 7.4 magnitude earthquake, calls for aid

The Permanent Conference of Political Parties of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPPAL) has voiced its solidarity with the people and government of Colombia after a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the nation.

Alejandro Moreno Cárdenas, president of COPPPAL, urged the organization's member parties to coordinate with their respective governments to aid humanitarian relief efforts in Colombia. The organization expressed deep concern over initial reports detailing injuries, individuals trapped, and structural damage in Quibdó, Cali, Pereira, Manizales, Armenia, and other cities in western and central Colombia.

COPPPAL, representing progressive and democratic forces across Latin America and the Caribbean, extended condolences to affected families and wished for the swift recovery of the injured and the full restoration of impacted areas. The organization also acknowledged the work of aid agencies and local authorities involved in damage assessment and emergency response.

Reaffirming its fraternal bonds with COPPPAL member parties in Colombia and the entire Colombian populace, the organization expressed confidence that unity, solidarity, and strength would help overcome this difficult period. A fraternal embrace was extended to Abelardo de la Espriella, president of Colombia, to be conveyed to the Colombian people.
