Corruption Scandal in Ukraine: Searches Reported at Prosecutor General’s and Presidential Offices

Ukraine’s anti-corruption agencies are continuing a probe into senior officials, with searches reported at the offices of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, his deputy Maria Vdovichenko and Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper.

Local media reported that the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, known as NABU, and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office were carrying out a special operation to expose a criminal organization allegedly led by an official from the prosecutor general’s office. The organization was reportedly involved in protecting a network of fraudulent call centers and laundering property.

Earlier, reports said NABU had detained Serhii Kropyva, deputy head of the prosecutor general’s Department of International Legal Cooperation. Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksii Honcharenko wrote on Telegram that NABU was conducting investigative actions at the presidential office. No official information on the searches had been released at the time of the report.

The investigation is also linked in the article to alleged corruption schemes involving the state nuclear power company Energoatom. Investigators have said the schemes were organized by Tymur Mindich, who is accused of extorting kickbacks for contracts and using close ties with the head of state.
