Costco to open 'mega store' in Brisbane, Australia in 2029

American retail giant Costco is set to make a significant impact on Brisbane's retail landscape with the development of a "mega store" slated for opening in 2029. Located in the Brisbane Airport development area, this new outlet promises to be one of Costco's largest, covering an impressive 6.7 hectares.

The new Brisbane store will feature a vast warehouse sales area of 15,600 square meters. Complementing the retail space, it will include a substantial gas station equipped with 39 pumps, surpassing even Costco's current largest gas station in Australia, located at its Ardeer store with 38 pumps. The development is expected to create 250 full-time job vacancies and represents an investment of A$145 million (approximately NT$3.275 billion).

Costco Australia and New Zealand Regional Manager Chris Tingman expressed enthusiasm for Brisbane's dynamic growth, stating the company's commitment to providing enhanced value to local members through diverse products and services. This new store marks Costco's first in Brisbane and its fourth in Queensland, signaling a strategic expansion within the Australian market.

This venture is part of Costco's broader strategy to accelerate its presence in Australia, with plans to open an additional 20 stores over the next five years. The company's aggressive expansion is underpinned by robust financial results, including a profit of A$500 million in the last fiscal year, slightly edging out competitor Aldi's A$499.2 million.
