Couple arrested in Lot, France, with assault rifles, handguns, and 11 kg of drugs

A couple residing in Souillac, in the Lot department of France, has been indicted and placed in detention following a significant seizure of illegal weapons and narcotics. The arrests were made after investigators discovered a cache of firearms and a substantial quantity of drugs at their home and on a secluded property they owned.

During the operation, authorities seized five AK47 assault rifles, four carbines, nine handguns, and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition. Additionally, they found tear gas grenades. The drug seizure included 11 kilograms of various substances, such as cocaine, heroin, ketamine, ecstasy, MDMA, and amphetamine. A sum of 26,000 euros in cash was also recovered.

The investigation, initiated by gendarmes on May 19, led to the couple's apprehension a week later. They were intercepted while traveling in a camper van, having recently returned from the Netherlands. At the time of their arrest, they were heading towards a remote property located in Martel, approximately 15 kilometers from their residence.

The couple faces charges including participation in a criminal association, arms and drug trafficking, money laundering, and receiving stolen goods. They have been placed in provisional detention pending further legal proceedings.
