Couple Arrested in Taiwan for Daring Shopping District Thefts

A brazen duo, a man and woman, have been apprehended by police in Kaohsiung after a spree of thefts targeting jewelry and flower shops in Taichung's bustling Yizhong Street shopping district. Over a span of three days, the pair allegedly operated with the man acting as a lookout while the woman executed the thefts. In one particularly audacious act captured on surveillance footage, the woman was seen calmly lifting an entire display tray filled with rings from a jewelry store and walking out. The suspects then continued browsing and entered a neighboring flower shop to commit further theft. Their nonchalant behavior, described by netizens as 'too arrogant' and 'zero-cost sourcing,' drew significant attention. Police formed a task force, analyzing surveillance footage from the surrounding area to track the suspects, identified as 29-year-old Fang and 29-year-old Han. The pair proved elusive, moving between internet cafes and public places, but authorities eventually located them in Kaohsiung. The investigation revealed that the first jewelry store lost 75 rings and a display tray, valued at about NT$15,000. The flower shop reported the theft of two charms, worth around NT$560. Another jewelry store targeted on May 21 suffered losses of rings, necklaces, and bracelets, totaling approximately NT$120,000. The suspects have been transferred to the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office on charges of theft.
