Couple climb Empire State Building spire in peace banner proposal stunt

Two individuals ascended the Empire State Building's spire on Wednesday, unfurling a large banner with a message for world peace. The stunt, which took place at a height of 1,454 feet above Midtown Manhattan, soon appeared to be an elaborate marriage proposal. Dressed in black, the pair clung to the antenna spire while displaying a banner with white capital letters reading: "When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace."

Following the banner display, aerial video footage captured one individual kneeling, suggesting a proposal. The pair then embraced and appeared to kiss. Details regarding their identities and how they accessed the spire remain unclear.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the individuals began a slow descent to a lower platform on the antenna structure.
