Couple Drowns After Boat Capsizes on Vietnam's Sêrêpốk River

A tragic accident on the Sêrêpốk River in Vietnam's Đắk Lắk province has claimed the lives of a couple. The incident occurred early on June 11, 2026, when a boat carrying Y.M.B., 63, and his wife H.Q.H., 63, capsized in a section of the river known for its strong currents.

The couple, residents of Trí village in Buôn Đôn commune, were reportedly out on the river to check their fishing nets, a routine activity for them. While navigating the Sêrêpốk River, their boat suddenly overturned in an area with treacherous water swirls, causing them to fall into the river and disappear.

Following the incident, local residents immediately raised the alarm and alerted authorities. A search and rescue operation was swiftly launched, involving both official forces and community members along the riverbanks. The efforts paid off when the bodies of the couple were found and brought ashore around 6:10 AM the same day.

Local authorities confirmed that heavy rains the previous evening had caused the Sêrêpốk River's water levels to rise significantly, leading to stronger currents and more dangerous swirling water than usual. The local government has completed the necessary procedures and handed over the bodies to the families for funeral arrangements, while also offering condolences and support to the victims' relatives.
