Couple flees to China with billions after alleged hot pot restaurant scam in Taiwan

A shocking financial scam has emerged in Taichung, Taiwan, where the operators of the popular "Dan Shui Gun" hot pot restaurant, a couple identified by the surnames Huang and Hong, are accused of fleeing to China with billions of New Taiwan dollars.

The alleged scheme has left over 300 victims in financial distress, with individual losses ranging from hundreds of thousands to tens of millions of dollars. Many of these victims were reportedly local community members who were drawn in by the couple's apparent generosity and consistent dividend payments.

According to reports, the couple actively participated in local community groups, displaying considerable wealth and readily donating to charitable causes. This outward display of affluence and generosity reportedly instilled confidence in investors, leading many to contribute significant sums. Some individuals even resorted to taking out loans to invest, believing they would receive regular returns.

However, the situation took a drastic turn late last month when the couple stopped paying the promised interest. They subsequently disappeared, allegedly fleeing to mainland China to evade repercussions. This abrupt disappearance has shattered the trust of investors, leading to severe financial hardship, broken families, and widespread anger.

Local sources have condemned the couple's actions, with some stating they even defrauded the elderly of their retirement funds.
