Couple's argument turns nightmarish: Man abandons wife on highway

A domestic dispute on the A89 highway in France's Loire region took a perilous turn when a man left his partner stranded on the roadside during their journey. The incident occurred near Cervières, where the couple had reportedly stopped their vehicle to argue.

The situation became alarming when the driver, after the altercation, re-entered the car and drove away, leaving his companion on the highway's shoulder. Several motorists observed this "surreal scene" and promptly contacted French emergency services. Gendarmes arrived to find the woman being assisted by another driver who had offered her safety until police arrived.

She had been left on the shoulder of a road where vehicles travel at speeds up to 110 km/h, creating an imminent risk of a serious accident. French traffic law prohibits pedestrians on highways, and the driver could face severe penalties. Under the penal code, "directly exposing another person to an immediate risk" can result in up to one year in prison and a €15,000 fine.

This incident echoes the social media phenomenon known as "alpinist divorce," where individuals are intentionally abandoned in remote locations after arguments during hikes. The driver's actions not only endangered his partner but also demonstrated a disregard for traffic laws and personal safety.
