Couple's Public Sex Act at Qingtian Platform Results in Suspended Sentence

A couple who engaged in public sexual activity on the Qingtian Platform in Yangmingshan National Park has been given a one-year suspended sentence. They are required to complete 40 hours of community service within the next 10 months as part of the ruling.

The incident occurred in early May when a man identified as Gao and a woman identified as Li engaged in sexual intercourse on a table and chairs at the platform. The act was captured by a surveillance camera, referred to as "Lens-kun," and the footage quickly went viral online after being shared by witnesses. The Qingtian Platform subsequently became an unexpected site of pilgrimage for curious individuals, leading park authorities to remove the furniture and reposition the camera to deter further attention.

Park officials confirmed that the couple, upon being identified through surveillance footage and license plates, admitted to the act. They expressed surprise at being recorded and regret for their impulsive behavior, stating they were unaware of the live camera feed. The couple was subsequently handed over to the Shilin District Police for investigation on charges of public indecency.

Nearly two months after the incident, prosecutors decided to grant a one-year suspended sentence. They cited the couple's lack of prior offenses and their admission of guilt, coupled with apparent remorse, as reasons for leniency. The prosecution believes the experience has served as a deterrent, making further offenses unlikely. The community service requirement aims to ensure the couple contributes positively to society as a consequence of their actions.
