Court affirms Agada-led APC exco in Benue

The Court of Appeal in Makurdi has affirmed the Augustine Agada-led State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State. The appellate court dismissed an appeal filed by the APC against a Makurdi High Court judgment that had nullified the dissolution of the Agada-led executive and the subsequent appointment of a caretaker committee led by Benjamin Omale.

In its judgment, the appellate court held that all issues raised by the appellant were resolved against them and in favor of Agada and the other respondents. The court also upheld the trial court's consequential order, which declared all activities of the Benjamin Omale-led caretaker committee as null, void, and of no effect.

Omale, who was the 10th respondent in the appeal, aligned with the APC's arguments but did not file an independent process. The ruling brings a significant development to the ongoing crisis within the APC in Benue State, which has been characterized by a cold war over the control of the party structure between factions loyal to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Daniel Ihomun, the state publicity secretary for the Agada-led executive, quoted Agada as expressing confidence in the judiciary's ability to uphold justice. Agada urged all party members to remain calm and united for the sake of the party.
