Court remands Lagos man for assaulting 18-year-old wife

A 32-year-old man, Emeka Joseph, is in custody at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos following allegations of assaulting his 18-year-old wife, Ezaka Chisom Prisellia. The confrontation reportedly occurred on Sunday on Ayomide Street in the Isheri-Oshun area.

Witnesses shared a short video of the aftermath, showing Prisellia on a hospital bed with visible injuries to her face and body. Despite her distress and weeping, the teenager was heard in the clip pleading for her husband's arrest not to proceed.

Following public outcry over the viral clip, Joseph was arrested and brought before the Ejigbo Magistrate Court. He faces a three-count charge: conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, fighting, and unlawful assault. The court document details that Joseph allegedly pushed Prisellia without her consent, fought her, and caused her bodily harm.

The case has been adjourned to August 3, 2026, for further court proceedings. Rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu shared the court document, confirming Joseph's remand and the upcoming hearing date.
