CPBL: Chen Yu-Hsun Pushes for Return to First Team Amidst Health Struggles

In Taiwan's passionate baseball scene, the journey of veteran players often captures the public's imagination. Chen Yu-Hsun, a stalwart for the Wei Chuan Dragons, is currently navigating a challenging phase of his career, striving to rejoin the main squad after a series of health setbacks.

Chen Yu-Hsun is not a technical problem, but his body has been having problems, and the pitchers' performance has been very good, so he has not been able to join the first team.

Despite not being on the active roster, Chen recently celebrated his 37th birthday with the team in Hualien, expressing his desire to contribute to their pursuit of the first-half championship. His commitment and fighting spirit are evident, even as he battles physical issues that have kept him sidelined from the top team this season.

Wei Chuan Dragons' head coach, Yeh Chun-Chang, clarified that Chen's absence from the first team is not due to a lack of skill but rather persistent physical problems. However, Chen himself revealed a significant contributing factor: a car accident on February 6th, where he was rear-ended on the highway. While he escaped unharmed, the incident, which led to costly car repairs, marked the beginning of a decline in his physical condition that he struggled to control.

I came to Wei Chuan and often had stiff necks, the most serious one lasted for 7 consecutive days. On February 6th this year, when the team had a dinner party, I was driving on the highway and was rear-ended by a car behind me. I was fine, but my physical condition has been getting worse since then.

Chen recounted experiencing severe neck stiffness, including a continuous seven-day episode, which significantly hampered his performance. Fortunately, after recovering from this prolonged bout of stiffness, his physical condition improved, with his control and pitching speed returning to previous levels. This resilience and determination, characteristic of many Taiwanese athletes, highlight his dedication to the sport and his team, embodying the drive to perform at the highest level despite adversity.

This year is the first time in my career that I haven't been on the opening day roster for the first team, but I won't overthink it. I cherish this job and every opportunity to play every year.
