CPBL: Fubon’s Three First-Team Catchers Are the Youngest on Average After Roster Changes

Fubon Guardians reshaped their catching depth on the final day of the Chinese Professional Baseball League’s seasonal registration period, removing Chang Chin-te and adding Hsiao Yi-ming and Chiang Ting-yi.

The club registered nine players and deregistered nine as teams finalized their 60-player lists on Aug. 31. The changes leave Fubon’s three first-team catchers with an average age that is the youngest in the league’s top division.

Dai Pei-feng, 26, is the main catcher. His backups, Lu Po-hua and Chang Yu-hao, are 22 and 19 respectively. Fubon also has four catchers in the second team who can be called up.

The roster moves follow a difficult season for Lin Tai-an, whom Fubon signed from the Uni-President Lions through free agency before the season. Lin moved to the second team in early August after struggling on both offense and defense.

Hsiao, 26, played only five games across the previous two seasons. Chiang was selected in the same draft class as Fubon’s first-round pick Chang Yu-hao last year, and the two were teammates on Taiwan’s under-18 national team.
