CPBL's CTBC Brothers lose target pitcher Iimura to KBO's Lotte Giants

Japanese pitcher Shota Iimura, who had been undergoing testing with Taiwan's CTBC Brothers, is set to join the South Korean KBO League's Lotte Giants. The Giants announced the signing, bringing in the right-handed pitcher with a top speed of 153 km/h (95 mph) as an "Asian foreign player."

Iimura impressed scouts with his performance in the spring league, where he posted an impressive 0.931 ERA over 29 innings pitched. This strong showing attracted the attention of the KBO club, which has now secured his services. The pitcher reportedly averages 147 km/h (91 mph) with his fastball.

Speaking to Korean media, Iimura conveyed his commitment to the team, stating, "Although the team is currently in a difficult situation, I am ready to give everything for the team and lead the team back to glory in the second half of the season." He added, "I will show winning pitches on the mound and give back to the club that gave me the opportunity and the fans who support me."

Iimura previously played for KMG Holdings in Japan's industrial leagues after a high school career that included an appearance in the Koshien tournament. He had come to Taiwan to play for the amateur Taisui Dragons, hoping to pursue a professional baseball career. His potential move to the CTBC Brothers as a test player was initially considered, but his signing with the KBO's Lotte Giants means he will likely make his professional debut in South Korea.
