Crane overturns on Caracas-La Guaira highway, causing diesel spill and traffic delays

A major traffic disruption occurred on the Caracas-La Guaira highway when a telescopic crane overturned, spilling diesel fuel and causing significant delays. The accident happened Saturday morning in the direction of the Litoral Central, impacting the primary route connecting the capital with La Guaira state.

Drivers faced reduced speeds, leading to heavy congestion. Police Chief Alberto Prato confirmed the incident via social media, sharing a video that showed the heavy machinery lying on the concrete barrier separating the highway's directions. The spilled diesel affected the road's grip, increasing the risk of further incidents.

The crane was reportedly carrying a barrel of diesel, which contributed to the spill. The National Bolivarian Guard partially restricted traffic to prevent a complete standstill. Officials have not yet determined the technical or human causes of the rollover.

Information regarding the health of the crane operator and the estimated time for clearing the highway remains unavailable.
